The Fred Fosher Excellence in Writing Award annually recognizes a student who has shown excellence in writing. The award recognizes the critical role that writing plays across the curriculum, and the inspired work of students who rise to the formidable intellectual challenge of writing clear, purposeful, and persuasive prose. The recipient will receive an award of $1,000.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be full-time matriculated students with junior or senior status.
APPLICATION: Your application consists of a portfolio which demonstrates your abilityto use writing for a variety of purposes: to address complex ideas; to compose well supported arguments; to express creatively; to communicate effectively; to demonstrate learning; and to better understand what it means to write both as members of an academic discipline and as an educated person.
Please include the following in your portfolio:
- A reflective cover letter describing the applicant’s growth as a writer at the College
- A letter of support from at least one faculty member
- At least two pieces of expository writing to total a minimum of twenty pages, that may include, but not be limited to research essays, critical essays, textual analysis, scientific reports, application essays, analysis or synthesis papers, ethnographies, case studies, literature reviews, and investigation reports.
